GACHIP and Douglas County Masonic Lodges
(Re-printed from the GACHIP Website)
Freemasons have long been committed to
children and families through our scholarship program, children's learning
centers, model student assistance program and sponsorship of youth groups.
Georgia Freemasons have been conducting child identification programs for a
number of years and we are proud to offer this expanded program called GACHIP.
The previous program consisted of a single photo and fingerprinting. The new
program adds a short video interview and a dental imprint called Tooth prints.
Tooth prints are a technique developed by David Tesini, a Massachusetts
children's Dentist and incorporated into CHIP by Dr. David Harte, a
Massachusetts Freemason. These additions make CHIP the most comprehensive
children’s ID program available.
A parent's worst nightmare is the disappearance of a child. In today’s society
with over one million children being reported missing each year, we are
committed to helping address this problem.
GACHIP is designed to give families a measure of protection against this
ever-increasing problem. GACHIP provides Law Enforcement with important tools
to assist in the speedy and safe recovery of a missing child. Through the
benevolence of the Grand Lodge of Georgia and its membership we are pleased to
present this service free of charge. Georgia Freemasons are committed to
offering this program to the families of Georgia on an ongoing basis.
WHAT IS GACHIP
Georgia Child Identification Program addresses the alarming fact that more and
more children are reported missing each year. While most are found, many are
not. ALL of the identifying materials generated by the program are given to
the child’s family. We retain none of the information and this program is
offered to the public at NO CHARGE.
GACHIP is part of MASONICHIP, an initiative of North American Freemason's Grand Lodges, which generates "completed packs" of various identifying items of children for parents or guardians.
MASONICHIP is recognized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and has received a SPECIAL AWARD OF COMMENDATION from the NCMEC in February 2007.
Douglasville Lodge will host a GACHIP event that will coincide with our annual Rudolph Harper Labor Day Barbeque, held at Hunter Park on Labor Day (09/01/08). We are in need of as many volunteers as possible. The GACHIP event will be conducted indoors at the park, so if you are unable to help with the barbeque outside this may allow you to participate by helping to protect our community’s children indoors.
We will hold a training class at Douglasville Lodge on the operation of the GACHIP computers Saturday, August 16, 2008. During and after the Eastern Star Pancake Breakfast. Please note; you DO NOT need to be computer savvy to operate one of these machine; if you can “two finger” type, you qualify! Please feel free to contact me or any of the other lodge officers for further information.
